Gov. Namadi Sambo Gets Thumbs Up.
The Ogun State Governor, Chief Gbenga Daniel, has praised his Kaduna State counterpart, Namadi Sambo, for the spectacular opening ceremony of the 16th National Sports Festival.
In a statement signed on his behalf by the Press Officer of the Ogun State Ministry of Youth and Sports, Rotimi Oduniyi, Daniel, who is the President of the Taekwondo Federation of Nigeria, said Kaduna State and all stakeholders of the festival deserved a pat on the back for a job well done. The governor also advised the technical officials of the games tagged KADA 2009 to be firm, free and fair in their judgment.
He urged them to display the spirit of sportsmanship which they are noted for, the winners magnanimous in victory and the losers gallant in defeat.
Meanwhile, Team Ogun has recorded its first gold at the event. Augustina Nwokolo won the 48kg weightlifting clean and jerk while Nkechi Udo got bronze in the 48kg snatch. Ogun won another bronze in karate kata team event.
In other results, Ogun men’s cricket team defeated Anambra while its volleyball women’s team beat Benue. Ogun abula women’s team also defeated its Bauchi counterpart.
